The rapid pace of eCommerce evolution and the rising customer expectations require online brands and retailers to maintain real-time innovation, even more, when we are talking about enterprise-level brands whose customers' expectations are even higher and whose business needs are far more complex.

Beginning of this year, Shopify introduced Shopify Components - “The modern composable stack for enterprise retailers”. The advanced infrastructure components are aimed at prioritizing flexibility and enabling brands to innovate and integrate without restrictions, all while allowing teams to function even more expeditiously.

Speaking to the needs of Enterprise Brands.

While Shopify Plus has proved its capability of supporting both DTC and mid-market brands of all sizes in growing at hyperspeed year after year, it’s understandable that larger brands have some level of hesitancy when it comes to investing in a monolith e-commerce platform. Also, the bigger the brand is, the more sophisticated its brand needs are. That’s when a more complex infrastructure is frequently required.

Shopify’s Commerce Components focus on edge case solutions instead; giving brands the flexibility to choose any of the tested components and build their stores their way without having to migrate their entire tech stack over to Shopify.  After all, this is what composable commerce is all about: selecting best-of-breed commerce components and combining or ‘composing’ them into a custom storefront, developed and designed for meeting case-specific business needs.

Enterprise merchants can now connect components with the rest of their tech stack using Shopify’s component unthrottled APIs meaning that businesses can rapidly scale their presence with no API limit rate. Needless to say, enterprise merchants will also be able to offer their customers a reliable and secure experience with 99.99% uptime.

That said, Shopify New Commerce Components fall under 6 categories all aimed at supercharging customer experience without the effort, cost, and risk of building it from scratch:

  1. Storefront Components: Enterprise merchants can leverage Shopify’s Hydrogen and Oxygen React-based framework to create immersive and unique commerce experiences. Merchants can also deliver rich content experiences for their storefront using Shopify’s custom data models or their existing CMS. Lastly, storefront search; a powerful AI-enabled search that’s modeled on product and user signals.

  2. Cart & Checkout Components: No matter the component combination, enterprise merchants will always get to increase revenue on the world’s best-converting checkout. From cart app extensions to tax, payment and checkout platforms, merchants can either use their own, integrate with Shopify or choose any of its trusted providers.

  3. Core Commerce Components: Many of Shopify’s solutions including B2B Commerce, cross-border selling, subscriptions as well function extensibility are of interest to merchants worldwide. Now, enterprise merchants can power their business by utilizing any of Shopify's core commerce components without having to entirely migrate to the platform.

  4. Data &Compliance Components: Whether it’s data analytics, marketing insights, card data and vaulting, or security and compliance, enterprise merchants will always have the freedom to use Shopify’s solutions such as ShopifyQL, or integrate their own.

  5. Shopping & Logistics Components: When it comes to inventory, returns, fulfillment, order management and shipping labels API, merchants can enjoy the flexibility of integrating with their own preferred management systems. The goal is to streamline the process and sell with confidence through a centralized hub.

  6. Omnichannel Components: Points of Sale (POS), Social Commerce as well as chat and support are all available for enterprise merchants to maintain a unified image anywhere and anytime they come in contact with their customers.

Evidently, the new Shopify Commerce Components cover all areas of support a brand needs to meet its customers with an exceptional experience. It also enables businesses to manage the front and back end freely in a way that is of best interest to their brand image and internal operations.

This announcement exemplifies Shopify’s ongoing commitment to continuing to evolve and meet brands arising needs. Shopify powers ~10% of all US eCommerce, so the mentioned components have already been pressure tested in the real world and have proven their success time over time.

To conclude, Commerce Components is definitely a leap forward for Shopify to position itself against other enterprise eCommerce platforms. Though the features and functionalities of Shopify Plus are already well-marked in the eCommerce space with even more expected advancements in 2023, Commerce Components offer no API limits, 40,000 checkouts per min/store, increased product variant limits, and most importantly expanded ways of customizing a storefront and integrating third-party SaaS products.

Shopify Commerce Components is tailored to enterprise brands, in other words, retailers generating over $500 million in revenue. It is better suited for retailers that are managing more than one brand, selling online and offline, and are currently limited by their existing platform and the resources it takes to manage it.
